Blood Diamond
I enjoyed the film very much because the storyline was excellent, the scenery breathtaking and nothing was overdone. The film was set in Africa in Sierra Leone. Blood Diamond is the story of Danny Archer (DiCaprio), an ex-mercenary from Zimbabwe, and Solomon Vandy (Hounsou), a Mende fisherman. Both men are African, but their histories and their circumstances are as different as any can be until their fates become joined in a common quest to recover a rare pink diamond, the kind of stone that can transform a life... or end it. The story had an extremely gripping beginning which continued until the end of the movie. It was really interesting and the movie never led to boredom. The films climax was when both men (Danny Archer and Solomon Vandy) were looking for the diamond but got involved with the military too, leading to an action packed gun-fighting adventure. The film had quite a sad ending because Danny Archer had to sacrifice himself in order to save his partners life, his partner (Solomon Vandy) managed to survive with the diamond and later became a rich man.
The main characters of the story are Danny Archer (DiCaprio), an ex-mercenary from Zimbabwe, and Solomon Vandy (Hounsou), a Mende fisherman. The characters played their roles with great success and portrayed them successfully. They used many techniques such as voice, facial expressions, movement, dance and many different languages. They were also true to life. The movie was so great that I don’t think I would have changed anything. The characters performance was extremely convincing and exciting. Blood Diamond portrayed what a great movie should look like but also its story line and advanced techniques. The camera always held the viewer dazzled in action packed moments, the soundtrack was superb and the characters were life like. The film wielded a great set of music tracks that were suitable for the film. Characters of the film wore all the correct clothing in all captions.
I chose this specific movie to watch because it wielded 5 Academy Award Nominations under its belt, and only great films get that number of awards…
